Curriculum Specialist, Sun and Moon Room
Previously, I had invited the teachers to engage with clay in an open-ended exploration. Instead of simply putting the materials out again, we walked through a more in-depth lesson on different techniques, vocabulary, and tools. We worked with some of the different stages of clay, creating slip from the bone dry clay that the children had prepared, making coils and balls, scoring those pieces, and securing them with the slip to a collaborative vase.

It was a privilege to me to provide this opportunity for the teachers to dive deeper into the language of clay so that they can offer our Fair Oaks children this authentic material to discover and equip them with the tools, techniques and opportunities to discover, create, and demonstrate their thinking through this complex material.
